Lionel Richie has cancelled his upcoming live shows in Ireland over the coming days, due to health issues.

Representation for the singer stated that Richie has been diagnosed with an illness and "doctors confirmed that he needs to respond to treatment and should make an excellent recovery".

They added that Richie is "extremely disappointed" as "he always receives the warmest of welcomes in Ireland and that was why he had wanted to start his tour here - he is very much looking forward to getting back later in the year to perform in Dublin and Belfast".

The 63 year-old singer was due to play Dublin's O2 Arena tomorrow (Monday) night and in Belfast on Wednesday (September 26th).

The dates have now been rescheduled for 4th November at Dublin's O2 Arena and November 19th at Belfast's The Odyssey Arena.

Tickets holders are asked to retain their tickets for the new dates in each city.
