Robbie Williams and his wife Ayda Field have welcomed their first child.

The singer's wife gave birth to Theodora Rose Williams on Tuesday afternoon (September 18).

The news was announced on the star's official website, with a message to fans that said: "Praise be, it's Theodora Rose Williams, affectionately known as Teddy...born 3.33pm on 18.9.12, 7lbs 4oz...

"Baby, Mummy and Daddy are all rockin...Thank you for your best wishes...xxxx."

Williams and his US actress wife recently announced they had chosen a traditional name for their daughter, saying there was going to be "no mad celebrity baby name".

He said: "I do have a sort of celebrity name but it's not Appleesque. It's a very solid, old-school name."

The 38-year-old Take That star launched his menswear collection in Brown Thomas on Friday and played Dublin's O2 that evening.
