Brad Pitt has spoken about the decline of huge paychecks for actors, saying the days of multi-million dollar salaries are over.

When asked if it was possible for stars to still command a price tag over $10 million a movie, he told the BBC: "Yeah, that thing died. That arithmetic doesn't really work right now... that deal's not flying these days."

The 48-year-old actor said that the Hollywood industry doesn't have the funds to spend millions on its major stars due to the global financial crisis.

He added of current state of the film industry: "It's a really interesting time.

"A lot of the studios have been challenged because of the economic downturn as well so they've been betting on bigger, more tent pole kinds of things.

"At the same time that opens up a vacuum for really interesting new film makers to come in."

According to Forbes' top 10 highest earning actors list, Pitt earned $25 million in the last financial year.
