Dublin singer Melanie McCabe will make a sensational return to The X Factor tonight, Saturday September 8, after narrowly missing out on the live shows last year.

Warning: spoiler alert!

The 19-year-old from Whitehall has auditioned twice before. In 2008 she auditioned but the judges felt she was too young to put through to the competition.

Last year McCabe made it to the judges' houses section of the reality show, where she was flown to Miami to sing for Kelly Rowland and Jennifer Hudson.

McCabe, along with Scottish favourite Jade Richards, was not put through to the live shows, with Rowland choosing to send through Janet Devlin, Misha B, Sophie Habibis and Amelia Lily instead.

On Saturday night viewers will see McCabe perform a powerful rendition of Bridge over Troubled Water for the judges, including guest judge Mel B.

Judge Louis Walsh calls her audition "emotional" and says: "I know you're from Dublin, what people don't know is that we know each other and I know you have been through a really tough time."

Speaking to presenter Dermot O'Leary before auditioning, McCabe says: "I was so devastated when I didn't get through [last year], I cried the whole way home from Miami. I think in the past year I've just kind of said to myself, 'No, I'm going to come back this year, I'm going to do better'."

The X Factor continues tonight on UTV and TV3 at 8:10pm.
