Adele’s album, 21, is back at No 1 this week having sold well over a quarter of a million copies in Ireland since its release in February last year and her run of chart success continues to smash chart records.

The album has spent a total of 80 weeks in the Irish album charts spending a staggering 35 weeks at No 1 including nine weeks in a row and has slipped out of the top ten only twice in that time. 21 overtook Oasis’ previous record of 20 weeks at No 1 in Ireland a year ago.

Having gone 18 times platinum (total sales of 270,000), 21 is now the 7th best-selling album of all time in Ireland and the biggest-selling digital album in Irish chart history.

Adele has now sold more copies per capita here than in her native UK where the album has gone 16 times platinum (UK platinum is sales of 300,000).

Elsewhere in the top 20 albums chart, there is only one new entry as Conor Maynard’s debut, Contrast, scrapes into the top ten. Over in the singles chart, there’s a new No 1 with Calvin Harris featuring Example. Wiley is also new at No 18 with Heatwave.
