Movie studio Warner Bros has postponed the release of Gangster Squad until 2013 following last week's Aurora massacre.

A key scene, part of which had been seen in a trailer that Warner Bros has already pulled, featured a shootout in a cinema.

The Hollywood Reporter says that the movie's move in the US schedules from September 7 to January 11 will allow new filming to take place.

Directed by Ruben Fleischer (30 Minutes or Less, Zombieland), and starring Josh Brolin, Ryan Gosling, Sean Penn, Nick Nolte, Emma Stone, Anthony Mackie and Giovanni Ribisi, Gangster Squad looks at the Los Angeles Police Department's war with the mafia in the city in the 1940s and 1950s.
