Rihanna joined her mentor, Jay-Z, on stage last night for a performance of Run This Town.

She is not due to headline Radio 1’s Hackney Weekend until tonight, but Rihanna couldn’t resist getting an early start and joined Jay-Z on stage for a blistering performance of their chart topping hit.

M.I.A. was next to take the stage with the rapper for Paper Planes. They also performed Bad Girls to the delight of the crowd.

Jay-Z held the audience captive throughout his set which included past hits like 99 Problems, Bonnie & Clyde and Girls, Girls, Girls.

Finally, it was the turn of Jay-Z’s Watch The Throne collaborator Kanye West to take to the stage as the audience went wild for the two rappers.

Earlier in the day Leona Lewis wowed the crowds as she opened the festival.

The X Factor Winner debuted a new song Come Alive, as well as one of her biggest hits Bleeding Love.

Following Leona's performance, newcomer Rita Ora took to the stage. She looked ready for bed in a pyjama-esque shirt and trousers as she sang her hits R.I.P. and Hot Right Now.

Other acts performing over the weekend include Will.i.am, Plan B, Jessie J, Ed Sheeran, Tinie Tempah and Florence + The Machine.

If you want to check out some of the action the festival is being broadcast on BBC Radio 1 and BBC3.
