Production has halted on the remake of The Thin Man starring Johnny Depp.

Depp originally revealed plans to update the 1934 noir classic with Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides director Rob Marshall in 2010, with the production being confirmed a year ago.

According to reports in Deadline, Warner Bros has put a halt to the production because Depp is keen to take a break between films.

There is also speculation that the delay is down to budgetary concerns. Production was scheduled for November, but this will likely be pushed back.

Several actresses were mentioned to star alongside Depp, including Emma Stone, Carey Mulligan and Rachel Weisz.

The Thin Man is based on Dashiell Hammett’s iconic detective novel, which centres on Nick Charles (played by William Powell in the original film), a married man who solves murder mysteries alongside his wife Nora.
