Olly Murs has been confirmed as a support act for One Direction on their upcoming North American tour this summer.

The fellow X Factor finalist and recent Xtra Factor co-host will join the five-piece boyband on a string of their North American shows, billed as a 'special guest'.

Due to commitments to be involved with Soccer Aid, Murs will begin his guest spot on the tour from May 29th, though the tour begins on May 24th in Fairfax, Va. The tour will continue until the beginning of July.

Murs confirmed the news on Twitter, while also announcing that his record company will launch Heart Skips A Beat as his American debut single this summer.

As with every new season of X Factor, speculation is rife about who will return to their former roles and who won't. With Welsh host Steve Jones axed from X Factor USA, along with judge Nicole Scherzinger, after one season, it seems no position is safe.

However both Murs and Simon Cowell have indicated interest in the Essex singer returning as a presenter in 2012 alongside Caroline Flack. Neither Murs nor a spokesperson for the show have given confirmation that Murs will return.
