HBO has landed the Leonardo Di Caprio project Beat the Reaper, a criminal/medical thriller.

The network bought the project which is produced by DiCaprio after a competitive bidding war, Deadline reports.

Beat the Reaper is based on the debut book by Josh Bazell and centres on a young ER doctor whose life is upended when a patient comes through his ward that recognizes him from his old life when he worked for a notorious crime family.

As his life comes crashing back and his enemies from his old life try to destroy him, he tries to hold his new life together.

DiCaprio yesterday received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor (Drama) for his role as FBI director J Edgar Hoover in the film J Edgar.
