Stephen Fry will host next year’s BAFTA film awards. The actor, writer, producer and all-round brain-box will take over the emceeing duties from Jonathan Ross. Fry previously hosted the awards from 2001 to 2006 and said he had “a marvellous time” as the man at the microphone. He says that he can’t wait to be master of ceremonies in 2012.

"Hard as it may be for some characteristically sceptical Britons to believe, the Baftas have real kudos, reputation and cachet all over the world of film-making and I, old as I am, never cease to be shamelessly glamorised by the sight of so many legendary names who come every year as nominees and presenters."

Next year’s ceremony, which precedes the Oscars, will take place early next year. Ross wished his successor all the best in the job.
