A representative of Bono's has dismissed reports that the U2 frontman was hospitalised with severe chest pains last week.

It was recently claimed that the 51-year-old Dubliner was rushed to hospital on Wednesday after experiencing heart palpitations while holidaying in the south of France.

But a spokesperson has clarified that the star did attend the Princess Grace Memorial Hospital in nearby Monaco, but only for a routine check-up.

"Despite press stories to the contrary, Bono has not suffered a recent health scare," the spokesperson told Reuters.

"Reports of his being rushed to hospital for emergency treatment are untrue. Bono is in good health and enjoying a family holiday in the south of France."
