Rappers Kanye West and Jay Z have opened up a temporary shop in Soho, New York that exclusively sells copies of their album Watch the Throne.

The store was opened to stop the album being pirated online after it was digitally released on iTunes earlier this week.

Although the rappers have been criticised for this strategy, with independednt record stores claiming they are losing out, the store is described as being ‘wrapped in gold’, like the album’s cover art.

Speaking to Billboard, a Roc Nation representative explained: "It was really important to [Jay-Z] that people experienced this album in its entirety when they first listened to it.

"That was really the driving force of it, to create that nostalgic moment of unwrapping the CD and listening to it for the first time."
