'Mad Men' star Jon Hamm has agreed a new three-year, eight-figure deal with the makers of the show, which will make him one of the highest paid actors on cable TV in the US.

Deadline.com reports that Hamm's previous contract was for two further seasons and that the new deal raises his pay significantly in return for an extra year.

The website says that other key cast members are also expected to get pay rises in return for agreeing longer contracts.

The new series of 'Mad Men' will premiere on the AMC network in the US next year.
