Irish screen legend Maureen O'Hara has turned her trademark wit and wisdom to the pressures facing people in modern life.

Launching The Princess Grace Collection of jewellery by Newbridge Silverware, O'Hara said: "The jewellery is very fabulous but by the time you pay your taxes and bills and mortgages and other things what is there left for fancy stuff? You're lucky to have all your bills paid."

She stressed, however, that life was not all about money.

"It's your appreciation of money and your appreciation of how you earn it and how you make it and how you get it, and our wishes and hopes that the money situation in the world is going to improve and God is going to get us all over it," she said.

O'Hara, who recently turned 90, said she had no intention of slowing down.

"I'm not in a rush to get to heaven but if they accept me and take me in without any questions, then I'll say okay," she said.

"God made time and he made plenty of it."
