Al Pacino is to follow in the footsteps of Laurence Olivier, Orson Welles and Paul Scofield by starring in a new film adaptation of Shakespeare's 'King Lear'.

Variety reports that Pacino will work once again with director Michael Radford on the project.

Pacino previously starred as Shylock in Radford's 'The Merchant of Venice'.

The film is due to begin shooting later this year in Europe.
