U2 are in the studio in Dublin working on their eagerly-awaited new album with Daniel Lanois and Brian Eno.

Speaking to Billboard.com about the album, Lanois said: We're going to try and break new sonic ground and deliver a masterpiece. The sleeves are rolled up. Bono is all charged up with a lyrical angle."

The group have already worked on their new songs in three sessions in France and Morocco.

Commenting on speculation that the sessions could result in two albums, Lanois said: "There's so much material. When you get Eno and I and those guys in the room, before lunch there's like eight things."

There is no release date at present for the record.
