Russell Crowe has been approached to replace Brad Pitt in the big screen version of the hit BBC political drama 'State of Play'.

Variety reports that Pitt left the project last week after disagreements about the shooting script.

'State of Play' tells the story of a journalist whose investigation of a woman's death leads him to his friend, a successful politician.

Crowe is considering playing the role of the journalist while Edward Norton has been cast as the politician.
