After months of uncertainty, and rumours of a move to a different network, it has been announced that US TV giant NBC has renewed the medical comedy series 'Scrubs' for one last season.

The Hollywood Reporter says that the seventh and final series will consist of 18 episodes.

Commenting, 'Scrubs' creator, Bill Lawrence, said: "We're happy we can end the show on our own terms. We've been building toward the next season and the show's last 18 episodes."

Lawrence expressed his concern to the trade daily that US TV networks were now commissioning fewer comedy series.

"I worry about this becoming a self-fulfilling prophecy with the networks thinking that the only thing to do is to put less and less comedies on the air," he said. "I hope other comedies get picked up and have a good shot."
