Filming is due to begin next month on the big screen adaptation of John Boyne's bestselling book 'The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas'.

Variety reports that the film has been adapted and will be directed by 'Little Voice' director Mark Herman.

It will star Vera Farmiga, who was most recently seen on Irish cinema screens as the love interest in 'The Departed'.

'The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas' tells the story of the friendship that develops between a German boy whose father works at Auschwitz and another boy who is imprisoned in the concentration camp.

Farmiga will play the mother of the German boy.

The film is due to begin shooting in Budapest at the end of April.
