Robert De Niro has told MTV that George Clooney is to star opposite him in '36', a remake of the French police thriller '36 Quai des Orfèvres'.

The original French film starred Gerard Depardieu and Daniel Auteuil as rival detectives who are trying to solve a series of armoured car robberies in Paris and who bend the rules to suit themselves.

The US version will be directed by Marc Forster, whose credits include 'Finding Neverland' and 'Monster's Ball'.

Filming is due to begin in New York later this year and De Niro will produce the film through his company, Tribeca Productions.
