Colombian superstar Shakira won five awards at the seventh annual Latin Grammy Awards on Thursday, including Album, Song and Record of the Year.

She also performed at the show, duetting with Alejandro Sanz on her winning song, 'La Tortura'.

The ceremony was held last night at New York's Madison Square Garden.

Shakira brought up the issue of illegal immigrants in the United States, giving her support to those who are trying to become citizens, saying: "I hope soon they will receive they recognition they deserve from the government."

Other multiple winners included the reggaeton group Calle 13 and Argentine rocker Gustavo Cerati, who both won two awards each.
