'Batman Begins' and 'Insomnia' director Christopher Nolan is close to a deal to bring cult 1960s television series 'The Prisoner' to the big screen.

Variety says the plan is for the film to shoot after Nolan completes work on his 'Batman Begins' sequel 'The Dark Knight', which goes into production early next year.

The script for 'The Prisoner' is set to be written by Janet and David Peoples, the writers of the script for 'Twelve Monkeys'; David Peoples also co-wrote the script for 'Blade Runner'.

Nolan's new film, the Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman-starring 'The Prestige', opens in Irish cinemas in November.
