Jude Law is the star of a new BBC Radio 3 play, written and directed by Anthony Minghella and inspired by the work of Irish playwright Samuel Beckett.

'The Son' is part of the Beckett centenary celebrations on BBC Radio 3 and will be broadcast on 1 April.

It tells the story of a father and son remembering their dead wife and mother.

Law plays the role of the son, with David Threlfall and Juliet Stevenson playing the parents.

Law has worked with Minghella on three films: 'The Talented Mr Ripley', 'Cold Mountain' and the upcoming 'Breaking and Entering', which also stars Stevenson.

Commenting on the play, Law said: "It's a puzzle of words - a great excuse to sit and talk for a couple of hours. It's lovely working on something by a great writer who was inspired by a great writer."
