Zach Braff, best known from American TV series 'Scrubs' and director of the acclaimed 'Garden State', is to adapt, direct, produce and co-star in a remake of 2002 Danish drama 'Open Hearts'.

'Open Hearts' revolves around two couples whose lives become intertwined after a car crash.

Braff will work on the romantic drama for Paramount Pictures, who beat Fox Searchlight and the Weinstein Co. in what has been described as an intense bidding war.

Braff received several awards for 2004's 'Garden State', including an Independent Spirit Award for Best First Feature, a Grammy for Best Soundtrack, and a Writers Guild of America Award nomination.
