Pop singer Britney Spears has issued a statement defending herself after pictures of her driving with her baby son Sean Preston on her lap were released on the Internet.
The singer claims that the actions were taken after photographers approached her parked car and became aggressive.
Spears told People magazine in a statement: "Today I had a horrifying, frightful encounter with the paparazzi while I was with my baby. Because of a recent incident when I was trapped in my car without my baby by a throng of paparazzi, I was terrified that this time the physically aggressive paparazzi would put both me and my baby in danger."
"I instinctively took measures to get my baby and me out of harm's way, but the paparazzi continued to stalk us, and took photos of us which were sold to the media. I love my child and would do anything to protect him," Spears said.
According to the report, Spears drove to a Starbucks outlet with her baby son strapped into his car seat but took him out of the seat while her bodyguard was inside the shop and was then forced to make a quick getaway after being harassed by paparazzi.
