'X Factor' vocal coach Mark Hudson, who works on Sharon Osbourne's team, has said that he regrets his choice of song for Maria Lawson, who got evicted last week.

Maria performed 'Brown Sugar' on last weekend's live show, losing out on the public vote which followed. Louis Walsh, who is acting as a judge on the show, then chose to save Irish act The Conway Sisters in preference to Maria.

Speaking in an interview on the show's website, Hudson said: "It's killing me, I don't have words. I love you Maria and I'm sorry."

The vocal coach also said that he regretted the choice of song for Maria, claiming they should have "played it safe instead, things might have been different."

However, Hudson said that he believes that Osbourne's remaining acts could do well in the competition. "I'm very proud of them. There's a lot of trust between us: I listen to them and they listen to me. We always find a middle ground and have a lot of mutual respect," he said.
