Australian actor and star of the 'X-Men' films Hugh Jackman has turned down the role of James Bond in the next three Bond movies, according to reports.

ComingSoon.net reports that Melbourne-based paper The Age says Jackman turned down the role because he didn't feel he needed the role to boost his already high profile career.

Jackman would have been only the second Australian to play the role of the British agent after his countryman George Lazenby starred in the 1969 movie 'On Her Majesty's Secret Service'.

Speculation about who will play the spy, after producers announced their intention to replace Irish actor Pierce Brosnan for the new Bond movie 'Casino Royale', is still ongoing.

Hugh Jackman is currently filming the third instalment in the 'X-Men' franchise.
