Actor Christian Slater turned down a plea deal yesterday by refusing to plead guilty to charges of groping a woman.
The 35-year-old actor was arrested in Manhattan earlier this year and charged with sexual abuse and forcibly touching a woman's buttocks.
Prosecutors yesterday offered Slater three days of community service if he pleaded guilty to the charges, but the actor rejected the plea deal.
Slater's attorney, Eric Franz, said that he planned to investigate the case, claiming that it "warrants dismissal".
The actor's lawyer also sought, unsuccessfully, to delay Slater's next court date because of a scheduled appearance in a London stage production of 'Sweet Bird of Youth'.
The actor is due to return to court on 19 September 2005. If found guilty of the charges, Slater could face up to a year in prison.
