Oscar winners Cate Blanchett and Judi Dench are to star in the big screen version of Zoe Heller's acclaimed book 'Notes on a Scandal'.

Variety reports that the screenplay for the film has been penned by 'Closer' writer Patrick Marber and the film will be directed by 'Iris' helmer Richard Eyre.

The film follows the fallout after art teacher Sheba Hart (Blanchett) has a sexual relationship with one of her 15-year-old students.

Dench will play Hart's older colleague, Barbara Covett.

Shooting on the film is set to begin on 13 August.
