Robin Williams and Toni Collette are to star in the big screen adaptation of the acclaimed Armistead Maupin book 'The Night Listener'.

Variety reports that the film tells the story of a radio show host who develops a telephone relationship with his biggest fan, a dying boy. The friendship then forces the presenter to face up to all the relationships in his life.

Patrick Stettner, who also directed 'The Business of Strangers', will helm the movie, which goes into production next month in and around New York.

Variety adds that Sandra Oh and Rory Culkin are in talks to join the cast of the film.
