More details have emerged about the new film which will star Atlanta rap duo OutKast.

Speaking to MTV News, the film's director, Bryan Barber, who has worked with Andre 3000 and Big Boi on their promo videos, said that the movie was a musical set in the 1930s and that despite being produced by US cable channel HBO, it could get a cinema release.

Describing the film's plot, Barber said: "Basically, 'Dre and Big Boi have coinciding stories. Big Boi's in a love triangle and has to choose between his dream of being a businessman and his family."

He continued: "And Dre's is more of a tragic love story. He falls in love with someone from out of town, which motivates him to follow his dream."

The film features appearances from singers Macy Gray and Patti LaBelle.
