Bruce Springsteen, REM, James Taylor, Pearl Jam and the Dixie Chicks are among the artists set to take part in a nationwide US tour, aimed at removing President Bush from the White House.

The 'Vote for Change' tour will take place in the first week of October, with six different concert line-ups playing simultaneous shows in 28 cities.

All the cities are in so-called 'Swing States' like Michigan, Pennsylvania, Florida and Ohio, where either Democrats or Republicans could secure victory in the November presidential election.

Discussing his decision to take part in the tour, Springsteen said: "I felt like I couldn't have written the music I've written, and been on stage singing about the things that I've sung about for the last 25 years and not take part in this particular election."
