Filming starts in New Zealand today on 'The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe'.

According to the New Zealand Herald, the first scene in the CS Lewis adaptation is being shot today under the direction of 'Shrek's Andrew Adamson.

Tilda Swinton, Rupert Everett and Dawn French are all to star but no announcement on the four main child actors has yet been made.

Rumours earlier this year that Nicole Kidman was to join the cast as The White Witch were unfounded.

Filming is expected to take six months to complete and the film is due to be released in the US for Christmas 2005.
