Ethan Hawke and Laurence Fishburne are set to star in a remake of John Carpenter's classic action movie 'Assault on Precinct 13'.

The Hollywood Reporter says that French helmer Jean-Francois Richet will make his US directing debut with the film and shooting is due to begin in April.

The remake updates the story to the present day and has a policeman (Hawke) trying to defend a soon-to-close police station from a gang that wants to free a mobster (Fishburne) who is locked up inside.

Hawke will next be seen on Irish cinema screens opposite Angelina Jolie in the thriller 'Taking Lives'; it is due to open on 19 March.
