The White Stripes' singer/guitarist Jack White has spoken about the car crash which forced the band to cancel their appearance at Witnness.

White suffered a compound fracture to the index finger of his left hand in the collision with another car.

The injury prevented him from playing guitar and The White Stripes had to cancel their planned slots at both Witnness and Scotland's T in the Park.

White, writing on the band's official website, said "I broke my finger, three breaks, car wreck, horrible left turn in front of me, no chance of escape, air bag, the air near my fingers, devil in my left hand."

He also claimed to have "made it through year of rock n' roll death, got off with just a warning."

His girlfriend, the actress Renee Zellweger, was with him in the car at the time but was not injured.
