Avril Lavigne's hit song 'Sk8er Boi' is to be made into a film.

The Hollywood Reporter says that Paramount Pictures has optioned the song and 'ER' writer David Zabel will adapt the lyrics into a feature-length story about two teenagers from different backgrounds.

It is reported that the film will not be a musical but will be similar in style to movies like 'Save the Last Dance', 'Footloose' and 'Flashdance'.

The production team known as the Matrix, who co-wrote the song with Lavigne, will work as consultants on the screenplay and an album will be released to accompany the film.
