Martin Gore, songwriter and founding member of Depeche Mode, is to release a solo album at the end of April.

The album, Counterfeit2, is the second in what he calls his counterfeit cover-version series.

Gore has reworked classic tunes by Lou Reed, Iggy Pop, Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds, Kurt Weill and John Lennon.

The album's first single will be his cover of David Essex' 'Stardust'.

Depeche Mode released their most recent album, 'Exciter', in 2001.
