Irish actor Colin Farrell has topped the US box office once again with his latest film, 'Phone Booth'.

The film, which was delayed after last year's sniper attacks in the US, took $15m over the weekend in the States.

Farrell plays a publicist trapped in a New York phone booth by a sniper (Kiefer Sutherland), who is on the other end of the line.

Forest Whitaker and Katie Holmes co-star in the Joel Schumacher-directed thriller.

'What A Girl Wants', starring Amanda Bynes and Colin Firth, opened in second place, followed by another new release - Vin Diesel vehicle 'A Man Apart'.

Cinema attendance in the US is still sluggish, this weekend saw a 10% drop against the same period last year.

'Phone Booth' is released in Ireland on 18 April.
