U2's Bono has teamed up with Dave Stewart and former Clash frontman Joe Strummer to write a tribute song to Nelson Mandela to be played at an AIDs fundraiser.

They will perform the song, called '48864' (Mandela's prison number) at the end of the Mandela SOS concert on Robben Island in South Africa next February.

The day long concert is being staged to raise international awareness about the AIDS epidemic that has devastated Africa.

Other acts scheduled to perform include Coldplay, Queen, Ms Dynamite and Yusuf Islam, who as Cat Stevens had a string of hits in the 1970s before his conversion to Islam.
