The second in the Lord of the Rings trilogy had its world premiere in New York on Thursday night.

Director Peter Jackson attended the screening of 'The Two Towers', along with cast members Elijah Wood, John Rhys Davies and Orlando Bloom.

The Hollywood Reporter described the film as, "A cinematic flood of spectacular proportions." Entertainment Weekly said it was "an emotionally charged storybook epic".

Other celebrities attending the screening included Yoko Ono and Susan Sarandon.

'Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers' will premiere in London on 11 December. It opens in Ireland on 18 December.

The third film is due in cinemas this time next year.
