Damon Albarn is set to release an album of music from the African country of Mali.

The Blur frontman and Gorillaz co-creator traveled to Mali in July 2000 to record with traditional musicians there as part of an education project run by Oxfam.

"I hope people will listen to the album and make interesting connections," said Albarn. "My idea is to set up loads of dialogues between this music and other music that I love."

The Mali musicians performed for the first time with Albarn at London's Barbican center last night.

'Mali Music' is due for release in mid-April. Royalties will go to Oxfam's programme in Mali.
