Harry Potter has cast his spell on box offices across the globe, with the first film in the planned series drawing record takings since its release.

Last weekend, 'Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone' amassed an estimated $62.3m in 37 countries, topping the $60.9m it raked in the previous weekend from 31 territories.

Foreign totals soared past North America's $239.7m to $244.6m.

The gap is set to widen further as the film's international gross looks likely to rocket up to $300m.
