Dublin-based singer-songwriter Mic Christopher has died.

He had been on a life support machine following a fall in Holland nearly two weeks' ago while on tour with The Waterboys.

Born in New York to Irish parents in 1969, Christopher returned with his family to Ireland in 1972.

He played trad music at school and began busking at the age of 15.

In 1990 he founded the acclaimed Irish band The Mary Janes and released two albums with the band.

He went solo in 1999 and was working on material for an album at the time of his death.
