Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman are suing the actor who plays Tony Soprano over a row about their flat in New York.

James Gandolfini has backed out of a deal to buy their Manhattan flat after he was unable to get permission to renovate the property.

The couple say he should forfeit the $260,000 deposit they agreed on while Gandolfini insists they did not provide the paperwork he needed for planning permission.

Hawke and Thurman have submitted a lawsuit at the Manhattan Supreme Court claiming Gandolfini has reneged on the deal.
