Actor Tim Roth introduced 'Planet of the Apes' as this year's Surprise Movie at the Edinburgh Film Festival.

Festival organisers had not revealed the title of the film in advance of the screening, but 800 fans managed to get tickets for the Tim Burton-directed movie, which was shown in two auditoriums.

One of the film's stars, Roth praised the festival organisers for keeping the screening a secret. "I thought it was terrific that it was surprise," he said. "It was wonderful that they actually kept it going - you couldn't do that in America."

'Planet of the Apes', which also stars Mark Wahlberg and Helena Bonham Carter, opens in Ireland tomorrow. It had its UK premier last night in London.
