Ceoltronic Radio with Will Kinsella

Thursday 10pm – 12 midnight

Ceoltronic Radio is now in its fifth year of broadcasting and is RTÉ Pulse’s oldest continuous radio show. Beginning life on Raidio na Life in 2005 the programme made its way onto RTÉ Pulse in 2008. Ceoltronic is live every Thursday night from 10pm and is hosted by Will Kinsella who is a producer, resident DJ in Pygmalion, former POGO resident in the POD, Sound Engineer in Temple Lane Studios and the founder of the DIT DJ Society, which is now Ireland’s largest DJ Society, and the host to the annual All Ireland DJ Competition (Spin Off).

Inspired to get into radio by bootleg recordings of the great Jeff ”The Wizard” Mills’ show on WJLB in the 80’s, Ceoltronic focuses on the traditional electronic music radio format. That is turntables, live mixing and a focus on good music. The message here is that the radio DJ should speak as loudly through his music and mixing as he does through his voice. Simple really.

”If its underground, House, Techno and its got soul then it belongs on the show. Flavour of the month doesn’t live here.”

MIXEDUP with JON PIERCE

Saturday 2pm-4pm

Fresh out of the oven, comes Mixed Up – a brand new format of show to tantalize your aural taste buds. Picking up where the Switched On Saturdays show left off, Jon Pierce will be serving up a big fat buffet of sound each week to keep your ears feeling fuller for longer.

Ingredients include a smorgasboard of music of varying flavours – Soul, Funk, Disco, classic Hip-hop, Trip-Hop, Acid Jazz…to name but a few, and even an occasional dabble into Drum & Bass. His musical tastes run far and wide, and whilst he won’t be dishing out any Mongolian Overtone singing, a broad range of sounds always helps to spice things up! The love of House (in many of its forms) is of course ever present and will be dished up in plentiful quantities, blended and mixed for a smoother texture. Red hot newness will get folded in with classic club cuts and a sprinkling of tunes that rock the world in general.

The menu, like the music, is to some degree, a mixed bag. Mixed Up doesn’t stick to the usual courses and to keep it fr-fr-fresh – so whilst there is always a recipe – how one follows it is often another story! You can add an extra pinch here and a sprinkle there, but the end result will always be tasty. Some of the main courses include a hot buttered portion of the ‘Roots of House’ where we delve into the crates to pull out the original samples of those newer tracks that you recognize but just can’t quite place…!

The silver screen gets a spotlight with all the news from tinsel town with resident reviewer Sue Murphy, and plenty of guests will be dropping in to discuss their biggest tracks, their greatest influences and what they had for dinner the night before. The ‘Blast From The Past’ will take you waaaay back with theme tunes from days gone by and songs from way back when. And just when you think it’s all over… ‘One More Tune’ will give an anthem from across the genres the airing it deserves. Or possibly a bit of Mongolian Overtone singing.

You can generally expect a few side portions for good measure - a look at the ‘Weird Wide Web’ gives a glimpse into the often bizarre, sometimes interesting, but always odd slide into the world online…and the wonderous madness of the media gets a roasting with what is portrayed as news but isn’t always the case.

But with a mixed bag like Mixed Up, you’ll get a bit of this this, a bit of that, and a heaving bowl of the other.  All this mixed with more competitions and give-aways than you can shake a spatula at…make sure you tune to RTE Pulse every Saturday from 2pm till 4pm to get Mixed Up…in a very good way!

Taster with Orla Feeney

Tuesday 9pm - 11pm

Orla Feeney’s passion for electronic music has been in her blood for years, from her days underage clubbing at the infamous Temple Theatre, to her present position, rapidly climbing the ranks of the ever-evolving Irish clubbing circuit.

Not particularly one for stereotypes, Feeney has strayed far from the path of 'Blonde Bimbo Hard Dance Vixen.' Instead, Orla lays down layers of tech-trance and uplifting riffs to the tune of 140bpm.

Rave? It most certainly is.
