The Remarkable Adventures of Spike The Hedgehog

Sundays at 11am and Wednesdays at 4pm

The Remarkable Adventures of Spike the Hedgehog is a twelve part dramatised story for children of all ages. In this story, Spike has a great challenge, which is to find a hair from every land mammal in Mayo so that the hedgehog clan can weave a coat of True Protection for Spike's baby brother Squiffy who is an albino hedgehog.

The series takes Spike on a huge adventure, passing through landmarks of particular interest to wildlife, like the wild goats of Mullranny, the Red Squirrels in Beleek Wood, the Deer in Partry and the horse-shoe bats of Moore Hall in Carnacon, Co. Mayo.

The story is written and narrated by Sinead McClure and the series was produced and edited by Jho Harris both from All Points West Radio Productions. Spike's adventures gave Sinead and Jho a chance to bring to life, local native wildlife through the medium of sound and produce a series which was full of character, fun and also educational. With a team of voice actors they tell the story of Spike the Hedgehog and his great Challenge.

Spike

The animals were brought to life by a team of six vocal actors, Steve Dunford plays the lead role of Spike and is ably assisted by Terry McDonagh who plays his friend and mentor Hoot the Owl amongst other characters of the hedgehog variety and Richard Carroll, Hazel McGlynn, Jho Harris and Sinead McClure, each used their diverse range of voices and accents to depict animals from Mink to Badger to Deer even to the tiny, yet lovely Lolly the Ladybird.

Spike's tale was enhanced with sound effects collected at locations throughout the country and was recorded outside at a secret location thought to be the real Long Acre Wood alluded to in the storyline.

Everything and anything you can think of that's connected with a colour could be on OUR show! We'll also have some short, fun poems and amazing facts to do with different colours read out by boys and girls from across the land! If that wasn't enough I'll throw in some colourful songs too!

So I suppose I should tell you my favourite colour?... OK, here's a few clues! If you were feeling a little sad, someone might say "Are

Colm

you feeling a little ......!".... If you were to stand on the moon and look at the Earth, most of the planet would be covered in this colour.... So don't forget to pick your favourite colour and email me at junior@rte.ie with your ideas ! Tune into The Colour Chart on RTE Junior, every Saturday at 11am starting Saturday October 31st and repeated on Tuesdays at 4pm. Colm. :)
