Cork racecourse to house major motor factory
Cork, 22 November 1916 - The Cork Park racecourse will be made into a factory for the construction of motor cars, if Cork Corporation endorses a proposal that was put to it at its meeting today.
The proposal is being made by an international consortium who wish to buy the land from the Corporation and construct a vast plant. It is thought that in total 2,000 men would be employed in the factory once it becomes operational.
The local newspapers are hugely enthusiastic of the project and consider that it is precisely the type of initiative that might relieve the area of its dreadful poverty and substandard living conditions.
