Volunteer Corps formed in Castlebar

Published: 30 January 1914

A meeting was held today in Castlebar at which it was decided that a Volunteer Corps will be formed in the town. The meeting was held in Forrester’s Hall by the various National Societies in the area.

Two men attending the meeting proposed to not form a Volunteer Corps as they did not feel they should be emulating ‘Carson’s farce’ in Ulster. The majority however, voted to establish a corps immediately.
